STORY:
Switzerland is not commonly knowm for broadcasting aurora pictures. But our sun is in a solar cycle of increased activity phases. Therefore, when the sun is more active (strong solar wind, coronal mass ejections (CMEs), geomagnetic storms), the auroral oval expands towards lower latitudes that it usually does. This leads to events like the night of November 11th to 12th 2025 when the show was spectacular.

Checking many apps and metrics on regular basis as well as seeing many posts alerting for potential aurora event in Central Europe, I decided to take my chances and head to the mountains. 3 hours train and 30 minutes mobility car later, I reached my destination but the nighttime was already well settled. Headlamp on my beanie, I started to scout the area trying to find a descent composition pointing north.

Having found my shooting spot, I had to wait many hours as the show was playing with your patience till 2am when first pink glow was visible behind the mountain range. Let’s start shooting. In mind, I planned to shoot a panorama including the Big Dipper and was glad to have Andromeda Galaxy high enough to pop above the trees. The 45% rising moon in the East gave an extra nice atmosphere to the image.

Fingers crossed for more events like this in the near future !!!
Peaceful autumn sunset #switzerland Primary obje Peaceful autumn sunset #switzerland

Primary objective was to shoot there the comet Lemmon (image shared in my feed). Arriving at the location early enough, I scouted the area and setup my gear having found a composition I had not yet found in any other pictures shared on social media and Google.

Most photographs tend to head there only for sunrise. I therefore was lucky enough to be on my own for such a peaceful moment and wonderful conditions. Of course I was hoping for the clouds to move out of the way in the next two hours (which happened).

This is what I like the most about being a landscape and even more a night photographer. All the time spent in nature with the sound of the wind and this sense of freedom and peace.

STORY:
I did not have the chance to shoot the Comet C2025/A6 (Lemmon) till now. The weather has also been quite difficult lately over Switzerland. Checking out the forecast everyday, there was an opening in the East side of the country which is roughly 5h away from where I live. Let’s get the train and reach the spot few hours before sunset.

As the spot is mainly a sunrise location (20+ photographers the next morning), I got the place all for myself. I shot a few sunset pictures before getting my tracker out, my 200mm lens and framing the comet to capture several images to stack later on in post. Luckily there was no wind, which made it easier to get a clean flat reflection. Besides clouds started to move back in when I was just finished with my shooting plan. So happy I moved my ass over.

Tone of images of the comet have been shared over social media in the last weeks.. with many of them being incredible from astro landscape to deep sky photography. I tried to find a new interpretation and composition which you hopefully might like it.

To the community - keep shooting and sharing the beautiful night sky.
